OPENING CREDITS

Montage of vintage footage of Katie Beth dancing from age four.

AMY
(VO) She was this young when she
started dancing. Cute, a little
pudgy, determined … she could
wrap a crowd around her little
finger. And hold her daddy’s heart
hostage. Look at this … she
falls, laughs it off, and then
points like ‘look what I just did!’
What a ham. She loved to dance. She
loved life … and then … her
Senior year hit.

INT. KB BEDROOM – MORNING
Closet doors part revealing a very frustrated brunette teenager.

KATIE BETH
Kimi! Where’s my shirt? I saw you
wearing it last week! ARRGGHHHH!
She slams the closet doors.

CUT TO:

INT. KIMI BEDROOM
Kimi is sitting on her bed, headphones on scrolling through
her phone. Katie Beth slips up behind her and leans in close
to hear what Kimi is listening to. Katie Beth bobs along for
a second and then grabs Kimi by the shoulder.

KATIE BETH
Hey! What ya listening to?

KIMI
Just some TSwift, you know.

KATIE BETH
Have you seen my red shirt? I need
it to complete this outfit.

Katie Beth stands up and gives a twirl. Kimi slips her
headphones back on and rolls her eyes.

KIMI
I think I wore it last week, but
you’re gonna need a lot more than
your red shirt to complete that
outfit.

INT. CARTER HOME – MORNING
Amy Carter is scrambling eggs as sunlight is streaking
through the kitchen. She is dressed for work but has an apron
on with a snarky saying.

AMY
Girls! Jason! Breakfast is almost
ready, we are all going to be late
for school.

She places some bread in the toaster and walks over to the
fridge. A photograph held in place by a magnet catches her
eye – Her girls standing on the front porch holding a poster
board that reads “first day of school, 1999” and she is
caught up in that moment. The toaster pops up and the egg
timer goes off and she snaps back to reality. Amy pulls some
fruit out of the refrigerator and places it on the table.

AMY (CONT’D)
Breakfast is done, last one to eat
does dishes!

A heard of elephants tramples down the stairs revealing Katie
Beth all put together and Kimi who’s wardrobe hasn’t changed
except the headphones are now around her neck.

KIMI
I always look forward to the First
day of school and Christmas!

AMY
Why’s that sweetheart?

KIMI
Cause it’s the 2 times a year I
know we are going to eat breakfast
together as a family.

Amy is putting her plate together while Katie Beth is pouring
a glass of orange juice.

KATIE BETH
Well you know sis, you could always
get up a little earlier and cook
for us.

AMY
(she says with a smile)
Yeah, right.

KIMI
(in unison)
Yeah, right.

As they laugh, Katie Beth places the OJ on the kitchen table
as noise from upstairs gets louder. Jason Carter is heard
talking to someone as he is walking down the stairs. He has
the attention of the Carter women as he rounds the corner
into the kitchen.

JASON
Yeah, so like I was saying earlier,
can’t wait for you to be home son,
really hoping to balance out the
odds a little more in my favor.

Kimi and Katie Beth both perk up.

KIMI
Is that Jacob?!?

KATIE BETH
He must be having fun in Australia,
I texted him the other day and
didn’t hear back. This time
difference thing is weird.

All the Carters are now herding around the iPad screen to see
Jacob.

JACOB
(on iPad, in Australia)
Hey y’all! Sorry I am missing the
twice a year family breakfast.
Enjoy french toast for me. And
cookies this afternoon?

KIMI
(looking back over her
shoulder)
We have French Toast?!?

AMY
No, we don’t have French Toast
Kimi, sorry. And the cookies thing
stopped a few years ago. Thanks
Jacob.

Katie Beth and Jason roll their eyes at Kimi.

AMY (CONT’D)
(says with a smile)
Hey Jake, we might can make your
first morning back special by
adding one more family breakfast to
this year’s plans.

JACOB
I’m looking forward to that mom,
it’s fun here, and I am learning a
lot, but I miss you guys.
Katie Beth and Kimi both wave towards the screen.

KATIE BETH
We miss you too, Bubba!

KIMI
Pet a baby kangaroo for me,
actually, can you bring one home
for me?

JASON
I don’t think so.
Amy begins to break up the party.

AMY
Alright, We’ve got to eat and get
to school. Love you son!

KIMI
Yeah, I’ve got to finish getting
ready.

JASON
Love you son, remember who you
belong to.
